Fun facts:  Keishi means "poppy" in Japanese.  They grow this way without a nucleus, so they are a by-product of the pearl culturing process.  There are records of the black coloured natural pearl that Julius Caesar gave to his mistress Servilia around 50 BC.  Pearl is a birthstone for June.
